Winter in Margaret River with Summerstar? Yes please, it’s time to go on the road again with Summerstar Stories! Sarah, James and their three kids explored Margaret River in winter and found it to be the perfect time to slow down, rug up, and squeeze in a family getaway.
Packed with good food, fresh air, and just the right amount of chaos (thanks, kids), join them for their weekend adventure as they discover that Margaret River in the cooler months is just as fun — maybe even more so.
We kept breakfast low-key at the chalet in Margaret River Tourist Park — cereal, toast, and a solid attempt at pretending mornings are relaxing. But let’s be honest, the adults needed actual fuel, so one of us made the morning dash to Egberts Café for strong coffee and a seriously good Reuben sandwich. Meanwhile, the kids bounced their hearts out on the jumping pillow, so everyone won. There's no better way to kick off the day than bouncing and caffeine (three guesses on who the caffeine is for).

Yes, we took our kids to wineries. No, we didn’t regret it. Margaret River knows how to do a winter lunch — roaring fireplaces, covered decks, and lawns perfect for little legs. We got to sit back with a glass of red while the kids ran laps like they were training for a toddler marathon. Bliss.
Here's our list of the 10 most popular wineries in Margaret River.
We headed to Quacks Farm for some cow meditation (yes, cow meditation). The kids were absolutely enchanted by the giant, gentle cows — there were cuddles, whispers, and a lot of wide-eyed wonder. Baby T was moo-ing all weekend in solidarity with his new best friends.
Next stop: Cowaramup, a.k.a. cow statue heaven. The kids lost their minds over the cows — climbing, hugging, naming, and trying to take one home (Pip was not impressed when we said no). It’s one of those stops that ends up being way more fun than expected.
The Margaret River Farmers Market was our snack HQ. Warm pastries, local goodies, and enough snacks to keep everyone happy until at least… lunch. We may or may not have bribed the kids with brownies. No regrets.
They're open every Saturday, so if you're in town on the weekend, keep Saturday mornings free as there's no better way to get to know Margaret River and its locals!
Watch out Sarah!
When the weather turned, we ducked into WOW Illusions — a total hit with the kids and the adults. Spinning tunnels, shrinking rooms, magic mirrors — it’s part funhouse, part brain teaser, and guaranteed to burn off energy. Beware as you enter as it will spark about 500 “whoa!” moments from both grown ups and kids alike!
Still not tired? Enter The Hangout Margaret River — obstacle courses, trampolines, climbing walls, and full-throttle fun. The kids went hard, and we may have joined in for a round or two (no video evidence will be shared). Best part? Everyone slept like champions that night.
Back at the Summerstar chalet, we embraced the rainy weather with a family movie afternoon, snacks from the market, and the world’s most elaborate blanket fort. Thanks to the huge lounge room — we had the best lazy afternoon stretching out and pretending we were at a luxury cinema (might have gotten popcorn on the floor, but it's a cinema!).
All in all, we have to say, winter in Margaret River? 10/10, would recommend. There were fewer crowds, the vibes were cosy, and there was so much for the kids (and grown-ups) to do!
Did you know Summerstar has two parks in Margaret River?
Margaret River Tourist Park is the quintessential family caravan park complete with playground, jumping pillow, and swimming pool that will keep the kids busy while the adults relax. If you're looking for something more low-key, Riverview Tourist Park is a small park that makes for the perfect idyllic getaway by the river.
