It all started with a little caravan park in Esperance, Western Australia, purchased in 1996 by our owners John and Dani Layman - back when they had less grey hair and offering ‘colour Television’ for guests was a luxury – with their kids in tow.
It takes a certain amount of grit to run caravan parks.
Grit that John and Dani inherited in their past lives as market growers.
In the beginning, the Laymans did it all. Rooms were cleaned, toilets were scrubbed, trenches were dug, and trees were planted. Nothing was beyond their personal touch.
Soon their love for growth got the best of them, and they purchased a second caravan park in Geraldton.
The Layman family didn't just run a business; they lived and breathed it, sharing in the laughter and stories that echoed through the grounds of the parks.
Two caravan parks became three, then four, then fourteen!
Before they knew it, Summerstar Tourist Parks became the largest group of local West Australian family-owned and operated caravan parks in the state.
With two decades of experience now under our belt and Ceduna as the latest addition, our vision extends nationally — parks that stand as pillars in communities, investments that go beyond profits, and a commitment to regional growth.
When John and Dani’s daughter Sarah and her husband James wanted a sea-change from their fast-paced life as corporate accountants, they were welcomed into the family business with open arms.
Today, while John and Dani have stepped back from the toilet scrubbing and (most of) the trench-digging, their passion for the industry and enabling travellers to make unforgettable memories is stronger than ever.
It's not just about a bed to sleep in - though we get how important a comfy bed is - it's about the warmth, the care, and the lifelong connections made under a Summerstar roof (or caravan awning!)
