Pet-friendly Things to do in Carnarvon

Have a meal at pet-friendly Sunsets Café

Enjoy the stunning ocean views at Sunsets Café at One Mile Jetty. Dog-friendly with a large outdoor dining area, the café is the perfect place to enjoy a feed with your pet.

Explore Old Mile Jetty Precinct with your dog

Old Mile Jetty Precinct

As the historical One Mile Jetty is currently undergoing repairs, it is currently closed off to the public. Explore the surrounding heritage precinct with your best mate and learn about the history of Carnarvon through it’s interpretive displays.

See the Kimberley Steam Train at the Railway Station Museum, check out the Shearing Hall of Fame and visit the Lighthouse Keeper’s Cottage.

Take a pic at the Carnarvon Space and Technology Museum

Take your dog to space! Well, not really to space, but the Carnarvon Space and Technology Museum. While dogs aren’t allowed inside the museum itself, you can take your dog to check out the giant satellite dish sitting right outside and take a special pic for the ‘gram.

Drive along the famous Fruit Loop in Carnarvon

Known as the produce capital of WA, Carnarvon’s ‘Fruit Loop’ Drive Trail will take you to a multitude of fruit and vegetable plantations where you can sample the latest fresh produce. Take the dog for a drive along the trail and don’t miss the Cactus Garden, a hobby garden by a Carnarvon local who loves all things Cacti.

Must visit spots include Bumbak’s and their scrumptious milkshakes and banana ice-creams, and the Big Humpty Dumpty Water Tank for an insta snap.

Visit the Quobba Blowholes with your pet

Check out the awe-inspiring sight of the Quobba Blowholes where powerful ocean swells force water through sea caves and up out of narrow holes in the rocks. Watch along with your dog as jets of water erupts from the rocks that can go up to 20 metres! Best accessed from the raised boardwalk, be safe and keep away from the strong waves, and keep your dog on a leash!

Spend the day on the beach at The Aquarium

Take your dog along with you to The Aquarium, a calm lagoon where you can look for fish and seashells along a white sandy beach. A short stroll from the Quobba Blowholes, the Aquarium is also a great spot for some snorkelling.

Head outdoors with your pet in Carnarvon

Pelican Point is a dog-friendly beach where you can let the dogs off-leash for a quick run on the beach! Watch the sunset with your best mate after a good run and splash in the water.

Some other dog-friendly outdoor spaces where you can let your dogs off the leash in Carnarvon include the Town Oval, Hutchison Park, Festival Grounds, Wise Park, Baxter Park and Carey and McKenna Levy Area.

Things to consider when travelling with your pet in Carnarvon

  • Never leave your dog unattended in a car. Even on milder days, it’s dangerous for animals to be left in a car.
  • Walk your dogs in the early morning or evening to avoid the hottest part of the day
  • Make sure to always have water on hand for your pet
  • Ensure that there are shady spots for your pet to relax in if you’re going to be somewhere for an extended period of time
