Western Australia is home to some of the most stunning islands in the country — think crystal-clear waters, wildlife encounters, and plenty of spots where you can live out your castaway dreams (minus the whole “no Wi-Fi” thing). The Abrolhos Islands

An absolute must-visit for water lovers, the spectacular islands are teeming with incredible wildlife (hello Australia sea lions!) that you can spot while snorkelling, diving the famous 400 year old Batavia shipwreck, or fishing off the beach.

Rottnest Island

Who would have thought there would be such a beautiful collection of islands just a 45 minute boat ride away from Perth?

Rottnest Island with its gleaming blue bays and idyllic island lifestyle boasts one of the clearest snorkelling spots in Australia. Rottnest Island (or “Rotto” to the locals) is famous for its adorable, selfie-ready quokkas and boasts 63 stunning beaches to explore.

Top tip: Leave the car on the mainland — hire bikes and cruise around the island at your own pace or use the island’s hop on hop off bus!

For those craving a proper rustic escape, Dirk Hartog Island in the World Heritage Site of Shark Bay is remote, rugged, and outrageously beautiful.

One of Australia’s most historic and pristine locations, adventure awaits on Dirk Hartog Island. Often coined as the edge of Australia, it’s also where you can see Australia’s iconic last sunset.

Explore pristine and secluded beaches, discover the unique flora and fauna, and enjoy this retreat into nature. Be it snorkelling, swimming, or diving, the clear waters of Dirk Hartog Island promise crystal clear underwater vision and spectacular coral and marine life to discover.

Take the 4WD out and manoeuvre through the rugged terrain and discover what’s round the next bend or rise.

Spend your time off the grid in secluded island wilderness. Retreat for a week at the iconic Island Lodge, camp ocean side, stay in a private villa, or visit for the day.

Fun fact: Dirk Hartog is WA’s largest island — and it’s teeming with history dating back to 1616!

How to get to Dirk Hartog Island:

Either visit Dirk Hartog Island on a day trip from Shark Bay, or pitch a tent and camp overnight!

One of the world’s most spectacular wonders, the Horizontal Falls, is also situated in the Archipelago. Described by the wonderful David Attenborough as “Australia’s most unusual natural wonder”, it’s no wonder so many people travel to these islands just to witness this spectacular feat of nature.
