Summerstar Acquires Nanga Bay Resort in Shark Bay Western Australia

New Chapter Begins for Nanga Bay Resort as Summerstar Tourist Parks Takes the Helm

  • Nanga Bay Resort officially acquired by Summerstar Tourist Parks and to be renamed Nanga Shark Bay Caravan Park
  • Located in Western Australia’s Shark Bay World Heritage Area, Summerstar Tourist Parks will be lovingly reviving the property with water, power and infrastructure top of the priority list

Shark Bay, Western Australia: A beloved but long-neglected coastal destination is set to get a second lease on life, with WA family-owned Summerstar Tourist Parks proudly announcing the acquisition of Nanga Bay Resort, located near Shark Bay and Denham on Western Australia's Coral Coast.

Nestled on the way to Shark Bay and Denham and set against the spectacular backdrop of the Shark Bay World Heritage Area, Nanga Bay has long been a favourite stop for adventure-seekers and road-trippers. Now, under Summerstar’s wing, this coastal gem is set to get the fresh start it deserves.

With 29 years of experience in operating family-owned and managed parks across WA and SA, Summerstar is ready to roll up its sleeves and bring some much-needed TLC to Nanga Bay.

“We’ve got big plans for this incredible spot,” said Summerstar co-CEO Sarah Corbitt. "It’s a place that means a lot to many travellers, and we’re excited to revive it with care, community, and comfort in mind.”

Plans for immediate improvements are already in motion, and Summerstar will be working with the council and town planners, with all works subject to approvals. There will be a strong focus on bringing potable water to the site, with a new reverse osmosis (RO) system is on order and will be installed as soon as practical.

The motel rooms will undergo a full internal refit, with hot water systems and air-conditioners next on the repair list. “We’re not here to throw a quick coat of paint over things,” said Sarah. “We’re here to do it properly.”

Other planned upgrades include:

  • Power system improvements, with new generators and a switchboard planned
  • Sewerage solution mapped out with a modular system to allow for future expansion
  • Focus on getting the guest laundry operational as an early priority
  • Removal of derelict backpacker rooms and aged ablution blocks
  • Temporary replacement ablution blocks to arrive shortly thereafter from Summerstar’s Horrocks Beach Caravan Park
  • Extensive rubbish removal, tree clearing (goodbye Tamarix!), and garden clean-up
  • Freshly painted shop and office, plus a tidy-up of the existing shed

Summerstar says the refresh is more than cosmetic—it’s about restoring a place that travellers can once again rely on and enjoy, with a long-term view of delivering comfort and connection on WA’s Coral Coast.

“We’re not just patching it up,” said Summerstar Owner John Layman. “We’re here to resurrect Nanga Bay and make it a place people can rely on—somewhere that feels like a true escape, with all the comforts of a well-run park.”

Summerstar’s hands-on approach means that every decision is being made with future guests in mind, blending practical upgrades with genuine care for the land and community.

With 15 other parks across WA and SA, Summerstar is proudly family-run, values-driven, and committed to creating places where guests can make moments to cherish.

“We’re excited to give Nanga Shark Bay Caravan Park an overdue makeover,” Mr Layman said. “This part of the world is a beaut, and we can’t wait to share it with guests old and new.”
