Summerstar Tourist Parks' Zero Leaks Project Saves 240 Million Litres of Water in First Year of Leak Detection
Summerstar Tourist Parks has taken a major step in water conservation, with a new initiative saving the equivalent of 240 million litres of water in just 12 months — enough to fill 96 OIympic-sized swimming pools!
In July 2024, Summerstar Tourist Parks initiated the Zero Leaks Project and installed WildEye water usage loggers across all their 16 parks running on full or partial mains water supply.
Over the past financial year, Summerstar Tourist Parks has taken action on identifying and repairing 97 major leaks of 10 litres per minute or more across Summerstar’s 16 locations.
The water usage loggers detected water leaks from day one with a massive 90 litres/minute leak detected at Tom Price Tourist Park, a leak that had shown no above-ground signs and would otherwise have gone unnoticed.
The Tom Price leak has now been reduced from 90 litres/minute to 25 litres/minute thanks to continuous monitoring and repair work by the Summerstar operations team. The leak issue has been traced back to more than 20 individual underground leaks, with the team still actively working to eliminate the remaining leaks.

Detecting and repairing leaks was a hands-on operation with staff often operating at nights so as not to disturb our guests:
• Waking in the night to shut off lines and isolate problem areas.
• Installing new isolation points across parks to speed up detection.
• Digging and tracing water lines underground, often digging beneath buildings and slabs.
Summerstar Tourist Parks ongoing water usage checks revealed a discrepancy in benchmark analysis of water usage amongst their parks, initiating the investigation of the leaks and the Zero Leaks Project.
Summerstar CEO James Corbitt said the project is about more than technology.
“As a family-owned business operating in regional Australia, we know how precious water is. These savings don’t just make our parks more efficient, they make a real difference to the communities we’re a part of.”
This initiative highlights Summerstar’s ongoing commitment to supporting local communities, protecting the environment, and ensuring a fun, comfortable, and sustainable experience for guests.
