Picking the right tent can make the difference between a cold and warm night
There are so many different options for shelter when camping and caravanning. Whether you’re choosing to camp out in a tent or in a caravan, make sure you’ve picked the right option for you.
Tent: If you’re choosing to go with a tent in winter, make sure it is a warm and water-proof one. Consider getting a stretcher to put your mattress on to keep your bedding off the floor for extra warmth.
Canvas swags: Shelters closer to the ground can be warmer than tents, and canvas swags are particularly good at keeping warm in and cold out. The mattresses in swags are also usually rather thick, promising a warmer and more comfortable night’s sleep.
Soft Floor Trailers: The beds in a soft floor trailer is usually off the ground, so that would make for a warmer sleeping situation. Popular among families due to the additional space for extra beds.
Hard Floor Trailers: Much quicker to set up compared to soft floor trailers, hard floor trailers are a good idea if you have young children and you need to get the set up over quickly. A great option as these provide the same benefit of having your bed off the floor, and also usually come with a space for a dining space!
Caravan: For pure luxury and easy set-ups, caravans are the way to go. Depending on how kitted out your caravan is, you can park up and step right in to your caravan that’s complete with a bed, bedding, kitchen and bathroom.
Consider the various options for bedding. It’s hard to become warm again once the cold creeps in, so here are some suggestions that can make your winter camping experience more comfortable.
Sleeping bag: Make sure your sleeping bag is of a high quality and is designed for the temperature you’re going to camp in.
Sleeping pad: This isn’t entirely necessary in summer, but having a mattress between your sleeping bag and the cold ground will make all the difference.
