moore river lagoon guilderton

Only about an hour’s drive from Perth, Guilderton is well-known as the last estuary of the Moore River, where the stream meets the ocean tide. If you do decide to take a longer detour here or make a night of it, there’s certainly loads to do.

You can go for an afternoon barbecue and lunch picnic or hire a boat and perhaps even go fishing. You can also go on a river cruise or ride a kayak or canoe.

If you’re into sporty stuff, you can go sandboarding, surfing, off-road 4-wheel driving, swimming or hiking here.

To experience a bit of culture, you can visit the Guilderton Lighthouse, which is said to be the last brick-built lighthouse in Australia. The 32-metre-high lighthouse built in 1983 is made of specially tapered red clay bricks and has an automatic marine beacon.

If you’ve got kids with you, a visit to the Gravity Discovery Centre and Observatory should be an exciting science education encounter. The observatory is only 20-30 minutes east of Guilderton.

It’s also the place where you’ll find the Leaning Tower of Gingin. This 45-metre-high steel edifice leans at a 15-degree angle and is firmly held in place by 180 tons of concrete.

3. Stop by Lancelin
